Argentina superstar Lionel Messi astonished the football world by joining Qatari-owned Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and leaving FC Barcelona this week. Popular as one of the all-time footballing greats, Messi at PSG will reportedly earn $41 million yearly. PSG has now disclosed that Messi has got a ‘large number of $PSG Fan Tokens’.
PSG isn’t the only club to have created such tokens. AC Milan, Manchester City and even Barcelona have owned such tokens for the previous one year or so. PSG claims that the ‘publicity about the current signings in the club’s busy summer transfer window led to a massive surge of attention in $PSG Tokens, with trading volumes surpassing $1.2 billion after reports surfaced that Messi was about to join the club’.
PSG confirmed that these tokens are part of the Soccer star Lionel Messi’s ‘welcome package’. These tokens have been estimated to be worth 25-30 million euros ($29-35 million). However, the club didn’t reveal the portion of tokens included in the package but mentioned that the amount was significant. On Tuesday, Messi signed a 2-year contract with an option for the third year with PSG.
